Melissa McCarthy, leading lady Posted: The breakout 'Bridesmaids' comic actress, who also stars on CBS' 'Mike & Molly,' is moving from being the star's friend to being the star. Melissa McCarthy is a good friend. After all, for years now, she's been there for the likes of Lauren Graham, Christina Applegate and Katherine Heigl. On the Media: What went wrong with Katie Couric and 'CBS Evening News'? Posted: A marquee star proved not to be what viewers of the venerable newscast wanted. Her nearly five-year reign ends Thursday. Katie Couric has poise, good looks, smarts and the kind of warmth on camera that a lot of other news people would love to duplicate. TV networks say they're confident about NFL season Posted: 17 May 2011 08:18 PM PDT Networks including NBC, Fox and ESPN are telling advertisers as they trot out their fall lineups that they believe players and owners will come to agreement before September. Offstage, their tone darkens a bit. Despite the lack of movement to resolve the labor dispute between the National Football League and its players, the major broadcast and cable networks that carry the games are expressing confidence that when September rolls around it will be business as usual. |
Film commissioners and producers team up for conference Posted: The unusual alliance between the Producers Guild of America and the Assn. of Film Commissioners International for the third annual Produced by Conference is in keeping with the increasingly global nature of the movie business. Each year, hundreds of film commissioners from Serbia, South Africa, Michigan and elsewhere around the world descend on Santa Monica, pitching their locales with tax breaks and other incentives designed to entice filmmakers. |
