'Pirates of the Caribbean' the latest film franchise to go for a four-peat Posted: The third time used to be the end of the charm for sequels, but studios are now routinely pursuing a fourth picture in a series — or even more. When "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" debuted in May 2007, many critics derided the third installment in the Disney franchise, calling its plot incomprehensible and 169-minute running time torturous. Newsweek prayed it was the final movie in the series; the New Yorker said a monkey delivered the best performance in the film; and Time suggested an alternative title for the picture: "Pirates of the Caribbean: At Wit's End." |

Reality TV: Prison shows break new ground with female inmates Posted: More women are seen in prison shows such as 'Cell Block 6: Female Lock Up,' 'Babies Behind Bars' and 'Beyond Scared Straight.' With them comes more emphasis on rehabilitation and transformation. Watch a few episodes of your typical prison documentary series — MSNBC's "Lockup," say — and there are certain things you're almost guaranteed to see: shanks handcrafted from common jailhouse items. Inmates hurling feces at ticked-off guards. Facial tattoos. |

World Cinema: Korean actress Yun Jung-hee makes poetic return to acting Posted: Director Lee Chang-dong wrote the lead role in 'Poetry' expressly for Yun in hopes of coaxing her out of retirement. She says the character is a kindred spirit. For nearly three decades, Yun Jung-hee was one of the brightest lights in Korean cinema. She made her feature debut in 1967's "Sorrowful Youth," then went on to appear in nearly 300 films, amassing a reputation as possibly the greatest actress in the nation's history. |
